Mark Jefferson
“It has shown me what working life is all about. It was pretty daunting at first but I have grown as a result.”
Mark Jefferson, 16, from Cottingham near Market Harborough came to BMC from Uppingham Community College on a day release programme which provided him with the specialist motor vehicle engineering training he needed to undertake his apprenticeship. Apprenticeships can open so many doors of opportunity for young people and for Mark, the chance to work at motor dealer and servicing business Rockingham Cars came at the right time. And for Harry Pope, Service Manager at Rockingham Cars, seeing Mark thrive as a young apprentice is good news for the trade. Mark is pleased to have discovered what he wants to do in life, after winning the Young Apprentice of the Year Award he told us: “When I am at work I am treated like an adult, and that sense of responsibility has greatly increased my confidence in myself. The biggest lesson is that I am capable of achieving almost anything I set my mind to. It just shows what can happen when you put a lot of hard work into something you enjoy doing.” Mark’s hard work and commitment has seen him secure a full time position at Rockingham Cars and he hopes to carry on learning about the motor trade in the coming years.
