Jade Walker
I have very much enjoyed working with such a wide range of animals
“I was originally at another college studying hairdressing and realised it really wasn’t for me at all. So I started doing some voluntary work at Leicester Animal Rescue a few days a week and within six months I had been offered a job.”
“I realised that working with animals was something I really loved and this course is an excellent way to develop my skills and understanding at college whilst putting it all into practice in the workplace.”
“I have very much enjoyed working with such a wide range of animals and people who come into the rescue centre, I have also been learning more about scanning microchips, vaccinations and customer service.”
James Wilkinson
“I always wanted to work with animals from a very early age"
James Wilkinson is currently studying on the EDEXCEL BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Animal Management as well as working locally for the RSPCA.
“I always wanted to work with animals from a very early age and have always had a particular love for dogs, I just think they’re brilliant, really good companions and all round fantastic animals.”
“I was lucky enough to secure a placement through BMC with Leicestershire RSPCA and gain some really good work experience during that time as part of my course, I enjoyed it so much I ended up working much more than my 150 hours as I did extra time at weekends as well.”
“I suppose working over and above and showing real enthusiasm has paid off as I was offered a job and now work part time at the Leicester branch which fits in with my college studies perfectly. I really like caring for the animals and dealing with customers and as of late I have been fortunate enough to actually get some experience of administering vaccinations and getting involved in more ‘vet’ type stuff.”
"I'm also really excited about the brand new state-of-the-art Animal and Equine centre that's currently under construction at the Brooksby campus, looks like it'll have some really cool work spaces and animal rooms, not to mention aquatics and reptiles galore!"
It looks like James has taken some positive steps towards a really rewarding and successful career in the Animal welfare industry.
Testament to the fact that the combination of vocational study and periods of work experience with BMC’s relevant industry contacts can kick start your future.
