The BMC Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is a safe place to work and study, offering a wide selection of resources to help and promote student achievement. We encourage mutual respect between staff and students
The Learning Resources Centre follows Brooksby Melton College’s strategy where all staff contribute to improving the experience of our students, treating everyone on an equal basis.
A team of friendly and experienced Learning Resources Advisers are available to work closely with students and staff from the designated Helpdesk. The Centres are overseen by the Learning Resources Co-ordinator.
LRC Covid-19 Safety
The following measures are currently in place within the LRCs at both sites:
- A one-way socially distance walkway
- Use of hand sanitiser on entry and exit
- Face masks required on entry and exit and when moving around
- Provision of cloth and cleaner for wiping down computer keyboards before and after use
- Returned books to be placed in the quarantine box provided.
Facilities include computers, photocopying, printing, scanning to email and stationery sales.
Over 20,000 resources are available including; books, journals, magazines, and DVDs to help with studies and to supplement core texts. Resources are carefully selected to suit BMC courses by direct liaison with tutors and students. There is also an assignments receipt service.
Each Learning Resources Centre has a dedicated area for careers development containing the latest prospectuses, books on specific careers, CV and interview technique packs and job directories.
The LRC has a library area full of books and DVDs specific to all course study programmes. We also stock books to help with research, study skills and academic writing. All books can either be loaned or used in the library for reference purposes.
BMC uses the Dewey system to catalogue resources. Access to our online catalogue can be made through the LRC Moodle Page by clicking on Heritage Cirqa.
The LRC staff are available to support and help you find the resources you need, including access to online journals, including ScienceDirect and EBSCO. Please ask for a full list of BMC’s current subscriptions to HE online journals at the Helpdesk.
Shibboleth is active for an increasing number of BMC database subscriptions. Shibboleth is a software program which will enable a single log in for learners and staff to access subscribed and free course specific verified E-Resources such as journals, databases, eBooks and other resources. This means you can use your college log in and password on many of the resources websites that we subscribe to.
