The Catering and Hospitality industry is incredibly diverse, providing meals and snacks for millions of people every day. This vocational qualification takes into account the latest approaches to food safety, health and safety legislation and current industry practices, and provides a broad understanding of all aspects of kitchen operations, essential for those aspiring to work in the industry.

Your future

This course equips learners to progress onto a Level 3 course in Professional Cookery. Students may also wish to progress onto employment within commercial or industrial catering units, or other posts within the food service industry. Specialist careers advice will be available from our advice and guidance team throughout your course.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grade D or above or grade 3-9 OR Level 1 Professional Cookery and Entry 3 Functional Skills.

  • Cooking Meat and Offal, Poultry, Fish and Shellfish
  • Cooking Rice, Pasta, Grains and Egg Dishes
  • Cooking Desserts, Puddings and Bakery Products

English and Maths

English and Maths are very important for you during your studies and beyond. The Government has introduced new standards which mean that employers will looking for these skills when you enter the workplace. BMC is committed to ensuring that our students leave us with everything they need to reach their goals and meet the expectations of the industry.

If you are under 19 and narrowly miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course (by one grade), don’t worry – BMC can offer you a suitable course at another level and you can take GCSE English or Maths alongside it (daytime and evening options available). Learners will not be expected to take both GCSE English and GCSE Maths in the same year.

If you are under 19 and miss the English and/or Maths entry requirements of your course by more than one grade, BMC offers Functional Skills, an effective method to improve literacy and numeracy, for up to two hours per week.
