The course aims to enable learners to understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in the support of teaching and learning in schools. It provides the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively and in a self-directed way. It is ideal for those already volunteering in schools.

Your future

On successful completion of this Level 2 qualification, students are able to progress into a wide range of job roles including working as a Teaching Assistant, a Learning Support Assistant or a Special Needs Assistant. Furthermore, progression onto Level 3 qualifications is also possible, which can give even further career progression.

Entry requirements

Other than being over 16 years of age, there are no formal entry requirements.

About the course

The course (minimum 180 Guided Learning Hours) comprises of nine mandatory and two optional units, all of which relate to the subject matter. Assessments will be conducted internally.

Mandatory units cover a variety of subject areas such as child development, safeguarding, communication, promoting positive behaviour and supporting learning activities. Optional units include learning assessments, schools as organisations, extra-curricular activities and the learning environment.
