There are three levels of Leicester Tigers training for BMC students to get involved with, with opportunities to enjoy coaching sessions and games led by Tigers alongside your college studies. Read on to find out more!
The Enrichment option has unlimited spaces and offers up to two hours of rugby training each week alongside any BMC course. There may also be access to additional hours of training with the Development group, if your academic timetable allows for this.
The Development programme has unlimited spaces and allows players to access six hours of Tigers rugby training alongside bespoke timetables for Level 2 Sport, Level 3 Sport, Level 3 Sport Science and Level 3 Agriculture.
If Tigers are impressed with your training and performances in games, there are opportunities to progress into the ACE squad.
This course is open to all standards of Rugby ability (with no trial required) and the coaching will ensure that individual development takes place, with strength and conditioning and analysis sessions in the timetable.
ACE (formerly AASE) is a programme for 60 selected players (30 from each year group), including members of the Leicester Tigers Academy, who can study Level 3 Sport, Level 3 Sport Science or Level 3 Agriculture and have access to eight hours of training each week in their bespoke timetable. Teams also play fixtures in the ACE (Academies & Colleges Education) League.
Alongside study and training, students will also benefit from performance analysis, strength and conditioning and nutrition advice.
The Leicester Tigers AASE Programme is a limited offer for talented players who are looking to excel on and off the pitch. Places are given to those rugby players selected through the Tigers recruitment processes and trials.
Previous graduates of the Leicester Tigers Rugby programme have gone on to gain professional playing contracts and to represent their countries on an international stage (see ‘student success stories’ section below for examples).
The BMC School of Higher Education offers a Foundation Degree and Top-up degree in Sport Science.
In addition to training opportunities with Leicester Tigers, BMC degree students can benefit from work experience opportunities:
Year 1 – Commercial/Community at Welford Road
Year 2 – Performance (Strength & Conditioning/Coaching/Analysis) with college teams
Year 3 – ‘internship’ with college team(s)
